Details

Built between 1599 and 1606, the Convento da Trindade is one of many historical ruins in the city of Lagos. The convent had two floors arranged around a central courtyard portico, with the church addorsed to one of the wings.

In 1755, the Great Lisbon Earthquake caused major damages and for many years it was left in state of disrepair. It wasn't until sometime in the 1800's that the convent was rebuilt but this time as a hospital for the Portuguese navy.

To this day, the site still retains some of its magic of yesteryear and it can be visited with some caution. The Convento da Trindade is just a 5 minute walk along the coast from Praia do Pinhão in Lagos.
